Wireless Goes Primetime

Wireless Internet has been the poor cousin in many ways for most of the developed world.  Performance has been notably hit and miss and the mainstream engineering ethos has been often characterised by the refrain 'What do you expect? its WIRELESS !'. Clearly technologists have dropped the ball in most respects as modern human activity is destined to be wireless. In other areas of human endevour we have consiously and diligently pushed marginal technology into the mainstream and NOW is Wireless communications time.

Carrier Carry Bag For Phone Vendors

Difficult new regulatory environments are nothing new to Carriers. Carriers are straining under their partner's business models, as The Big 3 Motorola Nokia and New Boy Apple fight for the palm space spending zone.

Australia's Competition watchdog the Austrlaian Competition and Consumer Commission ( akin the the USA's Department of Justice Antitrust Division) has announced that a recent decision to enforce matching HARDWARE warranty and Carrier Plan terms. this is a fundamental shift in the this arena as consumers are faced commonly with longer term plans than the warranty offered.

"The ACCC believes the handset is an integral part of the package and if it fails through no fault of the consumer, the company is responsible for replacement or repair."

Historically the device and the connection have co-existed as parallel elements under the contractual umbrella of the Carriers Plan but now they are inextricably to be linked.

 Prediciton?
  1. Prices will rise to cover the cost of broken devices  (especially iPads)
  2. Carriers will stop Offering Subsidised high value Phones

BumpTop Gets Google Launch

As we accelerate toward a near future of converged communications devices with 3D, TV, Multi - Touch interactive, Skype enabled interfaces. It seems Google have executed a flanking move and grabbed a cornerstone technology from BumpTop.

This move is not without precedent as we recall the Apple aquisition of Fingerworks the now Famous Touch interface Research developer. If you've forgotten watch this and keep you ipod handy for reference

Adobe TED Presentation by Fingerworks' Jeff Han

For old timers who may remember Sony's attempt in the early 90's on the palmtop platforms of the time with a metaphorical 3D Spatial interface After 18 years the 3d World comes to Google as a Desktop.

The Sony Platformed MagicCap interface was a break though concept at the time but the platform like the following Apple Newton was just a bridge too far at the time.
Here's some snapshots for your research list.

Prediction
1. You won't see this launched as an application but your will see It's technology embedded in the upcoming Google apps
2. you will be wanting one of these Lenovo W510 Series with the "hidden option of Multi-touch

For the Hidden option read the Parts spec sheet ( you'll see the W510 has a replacement part for a touch screen ) It seems this is still not orderable perhaps some one else has snapped up all the production ?

Or the now Shipping 24 Inch ThinkVision Multitouch Screen for your exiting deskop or laptop.

Skype the champion of build it and they will come with now 12 million online users at any one time are about to Monetise their corporate Disbursement system.

Currently Coporates have been able to "disburse"or allocate Credits to Users in the Business Control panel.

I received this 'Nice but NASTY' Email recently.

Blogger_Communigate

The impact is that Coprorates will now have to create "NEW" accounts for staff to receive Skype-in numbers + they will have to pay for the privilege of putting money in and spending it !

Oops and here I am ranting ?
